Our picture of the year for 2016 is by David Griffiths, a superb monochrome image titled "Tornado In Engine Shed".
Each year Hay Camera Club holds a member's competition to name the picture of the year. In 2016 it attracted entries in both print and digital medium, over 50 entries meant stiff competition with images from a wide range of subject matter.
Our Judge Leigh Woolford, gave detailed and constructive feedback on all images along with a mark out of 20. The standard of images this year was exceptionally high with some truly amazing photography both in terms of content and technique. In the end we had a number of images tied on 20, which left Leigh the final choice for Picture of the Year award.
This stunning monochrome print of a steam engine was his final pick. The detail and clarity of this image is stunning, whilst the print was technically well executed and sympathetically mounted. Taken at night in an engine shed it demonstrates a deep understanding of both equipment, light and mood.
